Frontier Girls Holidays

January 19 – Frontier Girls Birthday

Frontier Girls was officially founded on January 19th, 2007.  Ideas for celebrating this day include:

  • Go out into the community and do something to make it better – pick up trash, plant a tree, help at a food bank, etc.
  • Throw a birthday party with your troop using patriotic decorations.
  • Wear your uniforms to school or church

February 20 – Leader Appreciation Day

Show your Frontier Girls leaders just how much you appreciate them.  The date of February 20 was chosen for this day as it is the birthday of Sandy Yearwood, the inspiration for Frontier Girls.  She is the mother of Kerry Cordy and was also Kerry’s Girl Scout leader in the 1970’s and 1980’s.  It was because of the wonderful experience Kerry had in scouting as a girl that she decided to start Frontier Girls for her own daughters.  Sandy passed away in 2018, but her spirit lives on in the organization.

Ideas to celebrate the day include:

  • Hold a special ceremony at one of your meetings just to honor your leaders and volunteers.
  • Make thank you gifts or cards
  • Make a thank you banner and hang it at your meeting place.

March 4th (Forth!) Day- Our annual SWAPS day

March 4th each year is a day of action when Frontier Girls across the country trade SWAPS (small craft projects on safety pins that represent their troop in some way)  to get to know other troops and members across the country. This is also the day members “March Forth” into their communities and show them what Frontier Girls is all about.  Ideas for celebrating the day include:

  • Participating in the national SWAPS event (registration is Jan. 1-Jan. 31 each year)
  • Wear your uniform to school or church.
  • Participate in a community service activity
  • Do random acts of kindness

Founder’s Day – September 20

September 20 is the birthday of Kerry Cordy, the founder of Frontier Girls.  Ideas to celebrate this day include:

  • Participate in a community service project that you feel represents Frontier Girls or Kerry in some manner.  Examples might include helping out at your local VFW, American Legion or veterans’ home or performing for them in some manner such as singing or doing tall flag routines.  You might also participate in a walk or fundraiser for a cure for Alzheimer’s as that is what Sandy Yearwood, Kerry’s mom and the inspiration behind Frontier Girls, died of in 2018.
  • Interview Kerry Cordy either by phone or email.
  • Send Kerry a birthday card to:  Kerry Cordy, Frontier Girls LLC, 20845 Gregory Lane, Redding, CA 96003
