You may use any higher level requirement as an optional requirement if appropriate.

 

Penguins: Do three requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* What is Morse code? What is a cipher?

_____2.* What does SOS mean and how do you cipher it in Morse code?

 

Otters: Do four requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Penguin requirements 1 and 2. Who invented Morse code and when? What was the first sentence sent?

_____2.* How can Morse code be used with light and sound? Try it.

 

Dolphins: Do five requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Otter requirements 1 & 2. 

_____2.* Learn your name in Morse code. Write it and say it using sound (dit=dot and dat=dash).

 

Butterflies: Do six requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Dolphin requirements 1 & 2. 

_____2.* Learn about the telegraph system that sent the first Morse code message.

 

Eagles: Do seven requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Butterfly requirements 1 & 2.

_____2.* Make a time line of 10 Morse code events.

 

Owls: Do nine requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2.

_____2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

 

Optional Requirements:

____3. Send a message back and forth with a friend using a basic number cipher (a=1, b=2, c=3....).

____4. Read a rescue story where Morse code was used.

____5. Send a message back and forth with a friend using Morse code.

____6. Learn numbers 1-10 in Morse code.

____11. Is Morse code the same in other parts of the world? Where else is it used? 

____12. Learn to do Morse code using flags.
