The traditional Frontier Girls uniform consists of:
- A white shirt
- Navy bottoms
- A vest: red for girls, navy for leaders, and royal blue for adult participants
Skirts, skorts, pants, shorts, leggings, and blue jeans are acceptable for the navy bottoms. Jeans should be clean and free of holes, embroidery, or other colorful designs. Cutoffs, mini-skirts, and extremely low-waisted pants are not permitted.
Full uniforms should be worn to meetings, fundraising events, ceremonies, and other public-facing events whenever practical. For casual activities or activities where uniforms may get dirty or damaged, troops may design a troop T-shirt to wear instead. The goal is for girls to present themselves as a cohesive group while wearing clothing appropriate for the activity.ething where you may get messy such as tree planting or hiking, then you may wear a Frontier Girl t-shirt.
Each level of Frontier Girls is represented on the vest by a different color level tab and ribbons:
- Penguins wear pink
- Otters wear yellow
- Dolphins wear blue
- Butterflies wear green
- Eagles wear white
- Leaders wear red
- Owls wear grey
As a girl advances from one level to the next, she changes her level tab to the new color and adds a ribbon in that color beneath the ribbons from her previous levels. Previous level ribbons may only be worn for levels in which the girl actually participated in Frontier Girls. A girl who joins Frontier Girls at a later age does not add ribbons for earlier levels.
Awards and Leadership Pins
Servant’s Heart Awards are placed on the level ribbon for the level at which they were earned: red hearts on pink and yellow, silver hearts on blue, gold hearts on green, and gold diamond hearts on white.
Leadership pins are worn in the center of the tab or to the right of the current level tab while a girl holds that position. When she leaves the position or advances to another level, the leadership pin is moved to the level ribbon representing the level at which she held the position.
Gem Awards, Make a Difference Awards, Life Skills Achievement Awards, Major Awards, Liberty Awards, and other Higher Awards are worn above the level ribbons on either side. Servant’s Heart Awards and higher awards remain on the uniform as a girl advances through the levels.
Badges
Badges are worn beneath the level ribbons. When a girl advances to a new level, badges earned at previous levels are removed. Only badges earned at her current level may be worn on the uniform.
A new vest is recommended when advancing to a new level because badge pins leave holes in the fabric and girls may outgrow their previous vest, but purchasing a new vest is not required.
Level Animal Pins
The current level animal pin is worn on the level tab. Past animal level pins may be worn on the corresponding level ribbon after a girl advances to the next level.
Leaders
Leaders may wear badges and awards for badges and awards they have taught to their troop. Badges and awards taught bear a red ring around the badge or a red gem in the award. Badges taught are worn under the red ribbon on a leader’s vest.
Owls
Adult participants at the Owl Level earn badges and awards for their own accomplishments. Higher awards earned at the Owl Level have a grey gem in the center.
A Troop Leader who also participates as an Owl continues to wear the navy leader vest and adds a grey ribbon approximately 6 inches below the red leader ribbon. Badges taught to the troop are worn beneath the red ribbon, while badges personally earned at the Owl Level are worn beneath the grey ribbon.
Girls who continue with Frontier Girls as adults switch to a royal blue Owl vest upon graduating from high school or turning 18. Level ribbons and higher awards earned as a girl may be carried over to the adult vest. Badges earned at previous levels are removed and must be re-earned at the Owl Level to be worn on the adult vest.
