Penguin: Do three requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* What is painting? Look at different types of paintings such as landscapes, still life, portraits, self-portraits, or abstract.
_____ 2.* Make a finger painting.


Otter: Do four requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Penguin requirements 1 & 2.
_____ 2.* Make a painting using items other than a paintbrush. These could include items like cotton balls, Q-tips,
sponges, etc. Be creative!


Dolphin: Do five requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Otter requirements 1 & 2.
_____ 2.* Learn about the different types of paints, such as acrylic, watercolor, oil, etc.


Butterfly: Do six requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Dolphin requirements 1 & 2.
_____ 2.* Research different ways to make paint. Make your own paint and learn about how paint was created in the past.


Eagle: Do seven requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Butterfly requirements number 1 & 2.
_____ 2.* Make a timeline about famous paintings/painters (i.e. cave drawings, Mona Lisa, etc.) Make sure your
timeline includes at least 15 events/dates.


Owl: Do nine requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2.
_____ 2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.


Optional Requirements:
_____3. Learn about various careers that involve painting, such as a painter, art teacher, museum curator, and talk to someone in that field about what they like about painting and why they chose that career.
_____ 4. Go to a local art fair that shows paintings or an art gallery. Find 3 paintings and write about what you like about them.
_____5. Take a painting class.
_____6. Use paint to decorate a craft you have made, such as a painting a clay sculpture or a wood frame.
_____7. Read a biography about a famous painter.
_____8. Watch a documentary about a famous painting or painter.
_____9. Research one of the following genres/types of paintings and create one of your own (this requirement may be repeated several times as further optional requirements).

  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • Abstract
  • Historical
_____10. Write an essay on the history of your favorite art movement. This could include ones such as impressionism, cubism, surrealism, etc.
