_____1.* Do Penguin requirements 1 & 2. Identify three types of pumpkins.

_____2.* Learn where pumpkins are typically grown and in what season.


Dolphin: Do five requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Otter requirements 1 & 2. Identify four types of pumpkins.

_____2.* What are the health benefits of pumpkins? Are pumpkins a fruit or vegetable? What is the "three sisters" method of growing pumpkins?


Butterfly: Do six requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Dolphin requirements 1 & 2. Identify five types of pumpkins.

_____2.* Make two recipes using pumpkins.


Eagle: Do seven requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Butterfly requirements 1 & 2. Identify six types of pumpkins.

_____2.* Find five to eight physical characteristics to look for in picking out a good carving pumpkin. Know how to tell when a pumpkin is ready to harvest. Know the proper way to harvest and store a pumpkin.


Owl: Do nine requirements including the two starred *

_____1.* Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2.

_____2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.


Optional requirements:

____­_3. Read a book about pumpkins. (Penguin & Otter only).

_____4. Visit a pumpkin patch and pick pumpkins.

_____5. Carve at least two pumpkins with different designs. You can use a traditional face or carve a specific shape, object, or scene. Be creative!

_____6. Do a community service project involving pumpkins. Examples include making pumpkin bread and delivering it to the homeless, having a bake sale, etc.

_____7. Make a pumpkin craft.

_____8. Learn songs about pumpkins.

_____9. Take seeds from the pumpkin and make pumpkins seeds to eat.

_____10. Learn about at least three pumpkin myths.

_____11. Learn about careers that involve pumpkins, such as farmers, artists who carve pumpkins, florists or designers who use pumpkins in their designs.

_____12. Research different kinds of pumpkins and how to tell them apart. What sort of shapes and colors of gourds are still considered pumpkins?

_____13. Learn about the pumpkin’s significance in specific holidays such as Halloween. Why do people carve pumpkins?
