Penguin: Do 3 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.*What are rabbits? Be able to recognize them from a picture.

_____ 2.* Learn how to properly behave around rabbits and how to hold a rabbit so that neither you, nor the rabbit, gets hurt.

 

Otter:  Do 4 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.* Do Penguin requirements #1 & 2.

_____ 2.* What are male and female rabbits called?  What are the babies called?  What are young rabbits called?  What is a group of rabbits called? Be able to identify at least 5 different points of their anatomy.

 

Dolphin:  Do 5 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.*   Do Otter requirements # 1 & 2.  Know 8 parts of their anatomy.

_____ 2.* Know what type of food a rabbit needs.  How much should a rabbit be fed every day, and how often?  Understand how your rabbit should be housed.  How can you keep it safe from predators?  How is it kept warm in the winter and cool in the summer?  What health concerns are there for rabbits and what are the symptoms?

 

Butterfly:  Do 6 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.* Do Dolphin requirements # 1 & 2.  Know 10 parts of a rabbit’s anatomy and how to tell a male from a female.

_____ 2.* Know the difference between the following rabbit types:
•        Small Commercial

•        Commercial

•        Full Arch

•        Semi Arch

•        Cylindrical

 

Eagle:  Do 7 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.* Do Butterfly requirements # 1 & 2.

_____ 2.* Understand rabbit breeding.  Know how to prepare a nest for a doe and when to provide her with it.  Why does the doe need to be taken to the buck’s hutch for breeding?  What is a typical litter size?  How long does a rabbit usually live?  Explain the difference between inbreeding, line breeding, and cross breeding.

 

Owl:  Do 9 requirements including the 2 starred:

_____ 1. * Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2

_____ 2. * Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone.   You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge.   If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

 

Optional Requirements:

_____ 3.  Learn about the life cycle of rabbits. How long do they live?  How many babies do they normally have?

_____ 4.  (Penguins-Otters only) Know what type of food a rabbit needs.  How much should a rabbit be fed every day, and how often?

_____ 5.  Be able to identify three different species of rabbit.

_____ 6.  Rabbits are raised for meat as well as for pets.  Eat a recipe that includes rabbit.

_____ 7.  Understand how your rabbit should be housed.  How can you keep it safe from predators?  How is it kept warm in the winter and cool in the summer?

_____ 8.  Visit your state or county fair and tour the rabbit section.  Take part in it if possible.

_____ 9.  Attend a rabbit show.

_____ 10.  Rabbits are used for meat, fur, wool, or even just as a pet. Learn about at least one type of rabbit that is used for each of these different purposes.

_____ 11.  Visit someone who raises rabbits and learn about how they care for them.  Discuss daily care, sanitation, management, and feed.

_____ 12. Create a craft that involves rabbits.

_____ 13.  Learn how to properly groom a rabbit.  Know how to trim their nails, clean their scent glands, and check their ears and fur.

_____ 14.  Participate in a service project that deals with rabbits.

_____ 15.    Build a rabbit feeder, carrying case, tattooing box, or other equipment for your rabbit.

_____ 16.  Stretch and dry a rabbit pelt.

_____ 17.  Conduct a demonstration about rabbits, or create a small booklet, to share with a group of younger children.
