Penguins: Choose three requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1.* Be able to explain all safety rules when using short flags.

  • Always be aware of where your flags are and the space around you.
  • Keep a minimum of arm lengths between you and anyone else at all times when twirling short flags.
  • Never toss your flags around other people or objects until you have mastered the trick.

_____ 2.* Learn to perform at least three non-spinning moves with your flag


Otters: Choose two requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1.* Do Penguin #1 and #2.

_____ 2.* Learn to perform at least three spinning moves with your flag.


Dolphins:  Choose five requirements including the two starred.

_____1.* Do Otter #1 and #2.

_____2.*  What is the history of short flags groups?  Where did they originate?  How many groups are there now?  What are the differences and similarities between baton twirling and short flags?


Butterfly:  Choose six requirements including the two starred.

_____1.*  Do Dolphin #1 and #2.

_____ 2.* To what health issues should short flags troops pay attention?  What about nutrition & hydration?  Know what to do about bruises, blisters, sunburn, heat rash, heat exhaustion, and hypothermia.


Eagle:  Choose seven requirements including the two starred.

_____1.*  Do Butterfly #1 & #2.

_____ 2.* Do any short flags camps exist?  How much do they cost?  Is there any other way to get concentrated training?  What major competitions are available for short flags?


Owl:  Choose nine requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1. * Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2

_____ 2. * Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone.   You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge.   If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.



Optional Requirements:

_____ 3.  Help plan and put on a fundraiser for a short flags team.

_____ 4. Be part of a short flag team for at least three months and participate in a parade or performance.

_____ 5.  Learn what some good warm-ups and stretches might be before a practice.  Is there a time of day they might be more important?

_____ 6.  What are the modesty and practicality issues a team should consider when choosing their performance outfits?  What about price and durability?

_____ 7.  If you do not have a band to play for you, do some research equipment for playing the music for your team.  Compare the costs as well as the performance and mobility of various listening devices.

_____ 8.  Choreograph a routine for a short flag team.

_____ 9.  Teach a new trick, technique or part of a workshop to younger girls.

_____ 10.  Help sew some flags or performance outfits for a short flag team.

_____11.  What material are the flag poles made of?  Why?  What is the price range?  What fabric is used in making the flags?  Why?
