Complete this badge only under the supervision of a qualified adult as items such as hot liquid and blenders can be dangerous.

(You may use any higher level requirement as an optional requirement.)

 

Penguin: Do three requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1 * Learn proper safety precautions when working with soap making such as working with hot liquids and blenders.

_____ 2.* Help to make at least one type of soap.

 

Otter: Do four requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1.* Do Penguin requirements 1 & 2.

_____ 2. * Find 5 different items that can be used as a mold for soap.

 

Dolphin: Do five requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1.* Do Otter requirements 1 & 2. Make at least two types of soap.

_____ 2.* Find out about safe methods to color and scent your soap.

 

Butterfly: Do six requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1.* Do Dolphin requirements 1 & 2. Make at least three types of soap.

_____ 2.* Learn about the history of soap. How was it made in the past?

 

Eagle: Do seven requirements including the two starred.

_____ 1.* Do Butterfly requirements 1 & 2.

_____ 2.* Know the difference between melt and pour soaps, and cold process soaps.

 

Owl: Do 9 requirements including the 2 starred:

_____ 1.*  Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2

_____ 2.*  Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone.   You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge.   If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

 

Optional Requirements:

_____ 3. Make a glycerin soap.

_____ 4. Make a blender soap.

_____ 5. Learn about what different cultures have used in place of traditional soap for cleaning.

_____ 6. Do a service project that has to do with making soap such as making soap to give to a homeless shelter or battered women’s house.

_____ 7. Learn about careers in soap making. Examples might include making and selling your own soaps as a small business or working for a large corporation such as Proctor and Gamble who make a wide variety of soaps.

_____ 8. What companies produce the most soap? How are their soaps developed?

_____ 9. Soap making has become a cottage industry with “gourmet” soaps sold online. With the permission of a parent find out how many different types of homemade soap you can find.

_____ 10. Make some soap to sell as a fundraiser.

_____ 11. Make a Vegan soap.

_____ 12. Make a soap that will help with a health condition such as acne, dry skin or bug repellent.

_____ 13. Make laundry soap.

_____ 14. Find out what ingredients can be added to your soap for health benefits such as oatmeal.

_____ 15. Make a layered soap.
