Penguin (Do 3 requirements including the 2 *)

_____*1. What is one of your favorite songs? What is it about? Who wrote it? Why do you like the song?

 

Otter (Do 4 requirements including the 2 *)

_____ *1. Do Penguin #1. Pick one of your favorite songs and find out these things- Why did he/she write the song? What is the song about? What type of song is it; Country? Classical? Rock? Pop? Hip-Hop? Gospel?

_____ *2. Write a song, and perform it for your family or troop. It has to be at least 1 verse and 1 chorus long.

 

Dolphin (Do 5 requirements including the 2 *)

_____ *1. Do Otter #1.

_____*2. Write a song, and perform it for your family or troop. It has to have at least 2 verses and 1 chorus.

 

Butterfly (Do 6 requirements including the 2 *)

_____ *1. Do Otter #1.

_____ *2. Write a song, and perform it for your family or troop. It has to have at least 3 verses and 1 chorus.

 

Eagle (Do 7 requirements including the 2 *)

_____ *1. Do Otter #1.

_____ *2. Write a song, and perform it for your family or troop. It has to have at least 3 verses, 1 chorus and a bridge.

 

Owl:  Do 9 requirements including the 2 starred:

_____ 1. * Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2

_____ 2. * Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone.   You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge.   If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

 

Optional Requirements:

_____ 3. Learn what these words mean for song-writing; Verse, Chorus, and Bridge

_____ 4. Take the song Mary had a Little Lamb, and change one of the verses in the song. Show it to your family or troop.

_____ 5. Choose a poem you like, and put it to a tune.

_____ 6. When writing songs, you will be rhyming a lot of words. Make a list of at least 5 words that rhyme. Dolphins make a list of 7 words, Butterflies make a list of 10 words, Eagles make a list of 15 words, and Owls make a list of 20.

_____ 7. A jingle is a short song used in advertising. Write a short jingle about one of your favorite foods.

_____ 8. Do some research on a song-writer you like; see if you can find why they started writing songs.

_____ 9. Think of something you like, and see if you can find a song about it. Learn about the person who wrote it.

_____ 10. What is your favorite type of music? Learn more about it and write a short paragraph about what you learned. And Butterflies and up need to learn about a singer who sings that type of music.

_____ 11. Learn about at least two singers who write their own songs.

_____ 12. Look up what copy-writing means, and how to do it for a song you write.

_____ 13. Learn about careers in song writing. Find out about how to sell a song.

_____ 14. Go and see someone perform their own songs that they wrote. After, if you can, ask them what inspired them to start writing.
