Otter:  Do 4 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1*.  Develop the following leadership qualities and show them in your everyday life.

a)        Listen to others without interrupting.

b)        When you start something, see it through to the end, even if it is difficult.

c)        Learn from your mistakes and do not blame others for your own failings.

d)        Don’t take all the credit for a job well done, make sure that everyone who helped out is recognized.

e)        Don’t always demand to have things your way, learn to compromise.

f)        Finish things on time.

_____ 2.*  Role play different leadership situations.  Examples may include the following:

a)        Resolve a conflict between two team members

b)        Motivate a team member whose enthusiasm is lacking

c)        Set goals with your team and delegate jobs

d)        Deal with a team member who is constantly late

e)        Praise a team member for a job well done

 

Dolphin:  Do 5 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.*  Do Otter requirements 1 & 2

_____ 2.*  Hold a leadership position.  This may be captain of a sports team, a team leader on a school project, a leadership position within your troop, leading a Make a Difference project, or even holding a position in student government.  Identify the following:

a)        What are the goals for your team and how do you intend to reach them?

b)        What are the strengths and weaknesses of the individuals on your team and how can you use them to the best advantage?

c)        How do you plan to track your progress toward your goals?

d)        How can you motivate your team to their best performance?

e)        How do you plan to resolve conflicts that may arise?

f)        How do you plan to communicate with your team and inform them of important information?

Butterfly:  Do 6 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.*  Do Dolphin requirements 1 & 2.

_____ 2.*  Having the courage to stand up for what you believe in is a trait of an ethical leader.  Make a list of your core values. Next to each one, list at least one way in which you live this value in your everyday life and how you might use it in a leadership position.  Next, read at least 3 articles regarding ethics in business, politics, education, or other areas that require a person to show leadership qualities. Were these people acting ethically?  Why or why not?

 

Eagle:  Do 7 requirements including the 2 starred

_____ 1.* Do Butterfly requirements 1 & 2.

_____ 2.*  Read a biography about a famous leader.  What made this person an effective leader?  Make a list of character traits that a good leader should have.

 

Owls:  Do 9 requirements including the 2 starred.

_____ 1. *  Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2

_____ 2. *  Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone.   You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge.   If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

 

 

Optional Requirements:

_____ 3.  Find out what your book of worship says about leadership and memorize at least one verse.

    Dolphin: Memorize at least 3 verses.

    Butterfly & Eagle: Memorize at least 5 verses.

    Owl: Memorize at least 6 verses.

_____ 4.  Draw a picture about what leadership means to you.

_____ 5.  Learn the Frontier Girls theme song, “Take the Lead” or another song about leadership.

_____ 6.  Play Follow the Leader, Simon Says,  or a similar game where one person leads.  Make sure to take turns being the leader.

_____ 7.  Choose 3 quotes about leadership and tell why they are important to you.

    Butterfly: Choose 5 quotes.

    Eagle and Owl: Choose 8 quotes.

_____ 8.  Read a biography about a famous leader.  What made this person an effective leader?  Make a list of character traits that a good leader should have.

_____ 9. Interview someone who holds a leadership position to find out how they lead. Questions may include:

a)        How do you set goals and delegate jobs to your team?

b)        How do you keep your team motivated and focused on the set goals?

c)        How do you communicate with your team and keep them informed?

d)        How do you hold your team accountable to the tasks assigned to them?

e)        How do you recognize successful work?

f)        How do you manage conflicts between team members?

_____ 10.  Research jobs that require leadership skills.   Choose one, and find out what education and experience you would need, what type of pay you could expect, and what type of hours you may be required to work.

_____ 11.  Lead a group of younger children in songs, games, crafts, or other activities.

_____ 12.  Research jobs that require leadership skills.   Choose one, and find out what education and experience you would need, what type of pay you could expect, and what type of hours you may be required to work.

_____ 13.  Shadow someone in a leadership position for a day.  How do they make sure that work and goals get accomplished?  How do they motivate their team?  How do they resolve any conflicts that arise?  Make a list of good character traits that they show as a leader. (Dolphin & Up Only)

______ 14.  Work for at least 3 different leaders. Who was the best leader and who was the worst?  Why?  Make a list of the characteristics of each leader.  What character traits do you want to develop and which do you want to avoid? (Butterfly & Up Only)
