Penguins: Do three requirements including the two starred *

____*1. Why is sleep necessary?  What are the benefits of sleep? How long can you survive without sleep?

____*2.  Learn why bedtime routines are important.  Create a bedtime routine to help you go to sleep.  This may mean reading a story, singing a song, having a specific stuffed animal or comfort item with you.  Use the same bedtime routine for at least a week. 

 

Otters: Do four requirements including the two starred

____*1. Do Penguin requirements 1 & 2.

____*2. How many hours should the average child sleep per night? Is it possible to oversleep?

 

Dolphins: Do five requirements including the two starred *

____*1. Do Otter requirements 1 & 2.

____*2. What are some things that affect sleep? Name two negative and two positive things that affect sleep.

 

Butterflies: Do six requirements including the two starred *

____*1. Do Dolphin requirements 1 & 2. Name three negative and three positive things that affect sleep.

____*2. Name three indicators that someone is not getting enough sleep.

 

Eagle: Do seven requirements including the two starred *

____*1. Do Butterfly requirements 1 & 2. Name four negative and four positive things that affect sleep.

____*2. What are some diseases that are associated with sleep? Choose one and learn about it.  What causes it?  What are the symptoms?  What is the treatment?  What complications can arise from it?

 

Owls: Do nine requirements including the two starred *

____*1. Do Eagle requirements 1 & 2.

____*2. Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

____ 17.  Participate in a community service project that has something to do with sleep such as a stuffed animal drive for children in a hospital.

____ 18.  Learn about a career that has something to do with sleep such as a doctor or mattress manufacturer.  What kind of education would you need?  How much would you be paid? What type of hours might you expect?

____19.  Take a field trip to a sleep center

____ 20.  Take a field trip to a mattress store and learn about different types of mattresses.
